Signes - Ballet de l'Opéra National de Paris - Carolyn Carlson & Olivier Debré [2004]

Signs

Recorded at the Opéra national de Paris "Signs" is about Painting and Dance, and must be viewed as the outcome of two creative processes which followed and complemented each other: Painter Olivier Debré designed the sets before work on the choreography even started. Olivier Debré's painted "landscapes" are more than just sets, they structure the ballet, defining seven sections. Carolyn Carlson's inspiration draws on the impressive visual material - trying to express what cannot be said with words, what belongs to spirituality, the ballet touches on the essence of life: relationships, the crossing of individual paths, death and the rebirth of Nature. With original music by René Aubry, the ballet is reminiscent of Baudelaire's "Correspondances" where colours, gestures and sounds echo each other.
